Born in Athens, Greece, Zacharias Mavroeidis studied architecture and theater before turning to filmmaking. His debut comedy feature The Guide (2011) screened in more than twenty film festivals around the world. In 2014, his first novel, Nine Lives Left, was published in Greece. In 2018 he completed Across Her Body, a highly acclaimed documentary that follows a fading religious tradition on the island of Thirassia. His sophomore feature Defunct premiered at the 60th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
