Yiorgos Fourtounis was born in Rhodes and raised in Athens. Parallel to his studies in the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens, he studied film directing. ‘Face Down’ received the Best Fiction Film award at the 34th Film Festival in Drama and was nominated for Best Short by the Hellenic Film Academy. ‘Icarus’ screened at the 21st Athens International Film Festival and won the Best Director prize.
In 2018 he was awarded a fellowship by the 1st Stavros Niarchos Artist Fellowship Program for his previous work.
