Nancy Biniadaki is an Athens-born Berlin-based writer and director. Her debut feature film THE SURFACE OF THINGS (2017) premiered in Competition at Thessaloniki IFF and won the Best Greek Newcomer Director’s Award at Athens IFF.
She has directed several award-winning shorts, amongst which THE MOON AND I (2015), a commissioned work for German broadcaster ZDF/KiKa, for which she received the prestigious Grimme Preis in Germany. The film was a finalist at Prix de Jeunesse International and participated in numerous international festivals.
Previously she directed documentaries for the Greek National TV ERT (1996-2006) and was member of the creative team of the Closing Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
As theatre director she created several performances in Athens, as well as video projections for theatre and opera in Greece and Italy, collaborating among others with the Greek National Theatre, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Athens Concert Hall Megaron, and several off-theatres.
After first studying Film Direction and Classical Literature in Athens, she received a MA in Filmmaking from Sheffield Hallam University UK, on an Onassis Foundation scholarship. For her graduation film STILL COUNTING (1998) she received the Melina Merkouri Greek State Award and was officially selected to participate in the Biennale of Young Artists in Rome.
